What Belongs to Others Cudze rzeczy

  Grzegorz Dębowski  |  Poland

Kasia is adrift. She makes her living as a petty thief—she and her boyfriend break into people’s apartments and sell their finds at a pawn shop. The two live job-to-job, struggling to make ends meet and in constant fear of the law. When her boyfriend is suddenly arrested and jailed, Kasia is left to her own devices. Working alone, she finds a body in an apartment she’d been casing. The discovery prompts her to leap into action, and what begins as a scam to collect the deceased man’s insurance money becomes something more. As Kasia peels back the layers of his life, she finds herself slipping into a world that isn’t her own.

An elusive, elegantly plotted mystery, What Belongs to Others tells a larger story about crime, loneliness, and the transitory nature of identity.
