Victorian Psycho

In true Victorian gothic fashion, our story begins when a governess named Winifred Notty (Maika Monroe) arrives at Ensor House, an elegant manor owned by the oafish Mr. Pounds (Jason Isaacs). But unlike other governesses, she has a bloodthirsty streak underneath a thin veneer of middle-class propriety. Winifred’s responsibilities include educating the Pounds’ son and domesticating their daughter, all while tamping down her own psychopathic tendencies. When staff members begin disappearing, the family starts to wonder if something might be amiss with their latest hire.

This sanguinary satire invites us into the mind of a psychopath convinced of her own sanity—trapped in a world she cannot control and living on the border between insurrection and madness. Driven by Maika Monroe’s delightfully unhinged performance, a stellar supporting cast, and hyper-stylized cinematography, Victorian Psycho delivers a tongue-in-cheek take on the absurdities of 19th century gender roles and social conventions.
