Isabel

  Gabe Klinger  |  Brazil, France

Isabel, a 50-something São Paulo sommelière, is stuck. Feeling stymied by the cutthroat world of fine-dining, she dreams of escaping her demanding boss and owning her own bar dedicated to her beloved off-the-beaten-path natural wines. When an opportunity finally presents itself, she takes a bold leap and opens Os Rejeitados (or “The Rejects”), a neighborhood spot where she’s in charge of every pour.

Shot in stunning 16mm, Isabel is at once an effervescent character study and an understated love letter to the city of São Paulo. Star and co-writer Marina Person is magnetic in the titular role as Isabel strives to impart her passion for wine to all she encounters in this gently comedic exploration of self-expression, resilience, and reinvention.
