Corpus

  Corrin Evans  |  U.S.

It’s a steamy summer in New York in 1998, and the club scene is thriving. Sayo is a nightlife photographer who makes ends meet by selling drugs, and his sometimes-lover, Vince, is a star on the rise. Together with a mutual friend, they hesitantly accept an invitation to a party upstate, but the rager these three expect turns out to be an unsettlingly intimate gathering with three strange women: Billie, a famous photographer; Cata, her lover; and Wren, a young and beautiful wildcard. That these women want their guests’ bodies is palpable, but what exactly that means for the men is beyond their wildest imaginations.

Ideas of capture animate Corrin Evans’ directorial debut Corpus, with the protagonist’s photography setting the stage for the film’s broader treatment of bodies. Deftly moving from neon-soaked throngs to decaying interiors, the supernaturally charged erotic thriller never loses its focus on desire and its dark underbelly.
