See the 2019 CineYouth Award Winners!

CineYouth Festival announced award winners for the 2019 edition led by Best Overall Film winner No Such Sunrise by 22 year olds Dana Brandes-Simon, Laura Li, and Cella Wright from Oberlin, OH. The Audience Award was won by 22 year old Kylie Murphy of Shrewsberry, NJ for her short film Mad Lib Pixie Dream Girl which screened in the “She Persisted: Women in Cinema” program. Select prize-winning films will be screened together at the 55th Chicago International Film Festival, October 16–27, 2019 as well as on WTTW in the fall.[…]

Interview: Jawline Director Liza Mandelup

Liza Mandelup has had fantastic start to her year. After years working in photography and making short films for outlets like Dazed and Vogue, Mandelup world premiered her debut feature documentary, Jawline, at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The reception to the film was incredibly positive, and Mandelup won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Emerging Filmmaker.

Currently on the festival circuit, Mandelup next travels to Chicago to present Jawline as the Opening Night presentation at this year’s CineYouth Festival.[…]

Celebrating its 15th edition in 2019, CineYouth, presented by Cinema/Chicago, today announced the selection of 64 thrilling and diverse short films for a weekend of free screenings, discussions, and events.

The three-day film festival will be held April 26-28, 2019 at the Music Box Theatre (3733 N. Southport Ave.) and will screen work from filmmakers ages 8-22, shining a light on new work from the growing community of youth filmmakers from around the world, including many who call Chicago home.[…]

As part of our monthly Education Screenings Program, Cinema/Chicago hosted 9 CPS schools at Columbia College Chicago for Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster’s documentary Science Fair.
