Ben’Imana
Set in Rwanda in 2012 against the backdrop of the community-led Gacaca trials following the Genocide against the Tutsi, Ben’Imana tracks Vénéranda, a survivor dedicated to bridging the painful divide between victims and families of perpetrators. While guiding her community toward reconciliation, the unexpected pregnancy of her daughter Tina forces her to face the unresolved secrets of her own family’s survival.
Director Marie-Clémentine Dusabejambo delivers an extraordinary, devastatingly intimate masterwork that pivots from national healing to generational trauma. Built on a quiet, cinematic vocabulary, the film is a stunning testament to the realities of home as country and maternal legacy.
