Outré: Deviants and Deviations
In The Bovine Comedy, a farmhand faces an obsessive proposal from his boss, who pays him to extract invaluable semen from his bull, one of the last in Asia. Cosmonauts builds a wild, animated world in which people and creatures alike seek love and sex aboard a rocket ship drifting through space, the loneliest frontier. Into the cracks finds Germán on a family trip in the Colombian tropics, where he is visited by a mythical creature that awakens in him a new facet of his sexual desire. In the audaciously animated Hag, a newly single thirty-something woman becomes a witch with snakes for hair, a radical transformation that prompts her to reflect on the type of life she wants to lead. Ãshegetham (a Farsi expression meaning “I love you”) uses bold experimentation to depict a young queer couple in Tehran as their daringly imagined utopia is shattered by the crushing unreality of oppression and war.
