Competitions Announced for 57th Chicago International Film Festival

Today, the 57th Chicago International Film Festival announced our international competitions lineup. This year’s festival, running October 13 – 24, 2021, continues the tradition of introducing bold new films to American audiences for the first time, showcasing films from countries around the world, including Colombia, Jordan, France, South Africa, Cambodia, the Faroe Islands, Germany, and more. This year’s competitions will include the World Premiere of Babushkas of Chernobyl director Holly Morris’ documentary Exposure and the International Premiere of Franziska Stünkel’s The Last Execution.[…]

The Chicago International Film Festival today announced its return to theatrical, outdoor, and virtual screens October 13 – 24, 2021 for its 57th edition. North America’s longest-running competitive film festival, the 57th Chicago International Film Festival expands throughout Chicago with presentations at venues across the city, including at AMC River East 21; the Music Box Theatre; the Gene Siskel Film Center; and special drive-in presentations at ChiTown Movies in Pilsen; as well as offering virtual screenings via the Festival’s streaming platform.[…]

Artistic Director Mimi Plauché honored by French Ministry of Culture

Headshot: Mimi PlauchéThe French Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, announced that Chicago International Film Festival Artistic Director Mimi Plauché has been awarded the title and rank of Chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Lettres). Given since 1957 by the French Ministry of Culture, this honorary distinction is one of the main distinctions among the four Ministerial orders of the French Republic. The Truth Screening Cancelled

Dear Chicago International Film Festival Community,

The health and safety of our patrons and staff is our highest priority. Following the lead of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, who have strongly recommended the cancellation or postponement of gatherings of 250 or more people due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the decision to cancel our upcoming screening of The Truth this Sunday March 15.

We will be issuing full refunds for all tickets purchased for this event.[…]
