Ray Gunn

  Brad Bird  |  U.S.

From Academy Award winner Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille) comes this retro-futuristic noir about private eye Raymond Gunn (Sam Rockwell), and a case involving aliens, murder, and a multimedia star named Venus Nova (Scarlett Johansson). Set in the gigantic city of Metropia, the story tracks Gunn as he is hired to watch the notoriously difficult celebrity Venus, and finds himself embroiled in a much larger conspiracy.

Famously pitched by Bird as “The Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rogers,” the filmmaker imagines an inspired Art Deco-infused sci-fi metropolis of flying cars, jet-packs, and laser pistols. With a terrifically raspy Tom Waits as the voice of Eyera, Gunn’s one-eyed extraterrestrial sidekick, along with a fanciful array of alien species and exciting action sequences, Ray Gunn is a fun and imaginative trip into the future–-with some timely resonances for our present.
