Marc By Sofia

  Sofia Coppola

  U.S.     97 minutes

Synopsis

Marc by Sofia marks the first documentary feature by Coppola, and while it captures Jacobs at work, in his element, designing his Spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection, while reflecting on the people and pop culture that shaped him, from The Supremes to The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant, it’s also quintessentially Coppola in its collage-like approach to showcasing her friend’s deep, abiding — and shared — reverence for fashion, contemporary art, and youth culture.

A portrait of two kindred spirits working at the top of their game, supporting each other creatively through the years and drawing closer through their mutual passions, Marc by Sofia is a charming and loving tribute to what it means to stay up all night talking on the phone about Fassbinder, Fosse, and Fiorucci with that one special person in your life who just gets it.

Midwinter Break

  Polly Findlay

  U.K., Netherlands

Synopsis

In Midwinter Break, retired long-time couple Stella and Gerry (Academy Award® nominees Lesley Manville and Ciarán Hinds) travel from their home in Glasgow to Amsterdam for an impromptu holiday. Traversing the beautiful European city, they find themselves freed from the staid routines that have come to define their lives. But as the hours pass, Stella and Gerry realize that after decades together, their relationship has reached a crossroads. After so much time and so many memories, long-held promises and deeply concealed wounds threaten to come to light and force them to confront their future.

Based on the acclaimed novel by Bernard MacLaverty, first-time feature director Polly Findlay crafts a powerful debut that poses important questions about the nature of faith and commitment, and the enduring power of love.
