Two couples stand on a beach as a wave hits the shore, behind them an expanse of trees, both men and one of the women look off into the distance contemplative, the other woman smiles as she stares at the man furthest from her.

Possible Love

Master filmmaker Lee Chang-dong (Burning, Poetry) returns to the Festival with a bold, searing exploration of class divisions, labor, exploitation, and artistic ethics. After a local factory shuts down and a subsequent union strike is violently quashed, laid-off Mi-ok and his wife Ho-seok are trying to stay afloat and provide for their 10-year-old son. When affluent documentarian Ye-ji encounters the couple, she decides to make them the primary focus of a new film chronicling the tumultuous labor dispute.

But as Ye-ji and her businessman husband attempt to win the trust of the wary working-class parents, their lives begin to become dangerously intertwined. Soon, buried resentments, sexual tensions, and past traumas threaten to boil over.
