The Chicago International Film Festival Celebrates 50 Years of Great Cinema with Revivals and Special Appearances

CHICAGO, IL (September 18, 2014) – The 50th Chicago International Film Festival will celebrate its semi-centennial with special presentations of past Festival winners, audience favorites and cinema classics.

More than 20 films have been selected as part of this unique retrospective, including 1971 Silver Hugo winner “Family Life,” Lars von Trier’s Academy Award® nominated “Breaking the Waves,” “Roger and Me,” and three films which received their World Premiere at past Festivals: “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975), “The Idolmaker” (1980) and “White Nights” (1985).[…]

50th Chicago International Film Festival to Open with Liv Ullmann’s Torrid Adaptation of August Strindberg Play “Miss Julie”

CHICAGO, IL (September 9, 2014) – The 50th Chicago International Film Festival (October 9- 23, 2014) announces the selection of “Miss Julie,” directed by veteran actress and Ingmar Bergman collaborator Liv Ullmann and starring Golden Globe®-award winning actors Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell and Samantha Morton as its Opening Night film. “Miss Julie” will screen October 9 at the Harris Theater (205 E. Randolph Dr.). The red carpet event starts at 6 p.m. Director Liv Ullmann is scheduled to attend.

Festival Announces First 20 Films For 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Chicago International Film Festival, the oldest competitive film festival in North America, is proud to announce the first selection of titles to be screened during its 50th anniversary year. Featuring more than 150 feature-length and short films, the 50th Festival will run October 9-23, 2014. The full schedule will be announced September 16.
“This sampling includes both innovative new work from around the globe as well as films that pay tribute to our history,” said Founder and Artistic Director of the Chicago International Film Festival Michael Kutza.

The Festival Celebrates 50 Years of Bringing International and Independent Cinema to Chicago

Celebrating 50 years of making Chicago an international destination for acclaimed filmmakers, bold new directors and lovers of cinema, the Chicago International Film Festival returns October 9-23, 2014. The anniversary celebration will kick off with an Opening Night Gala presentation at the Harris Theater (205 E. Randolph St.), followed by a Golden Anniversary celebration at the Chicago Cultural Center. All other Festival screenings will be held at the AMC River East 21 (322 E. Illinois St.).
