The Dreamed Adventure Das geträumte Abenteuer

Valeska Grisebach  |  Germany, France, Bulgaria, Austria

A seemingly sleepy Bulgarian border town is expertly excavated when Said (a local worker reacclimating to an old life) and Veska (an archaeologist home to initiate a dig near the Turkish border) return home after extended time away. When Said mysteriously vanishes, Veska takes it upon herself to track him down. Suddenly thrust into the role of intrepid gumshoe, she begins to uncover a seedy, criminal underbelly as she reconnects with the community and navigates run-ins with a patriarchal network of bootleggers, kingpins, and human traffickers.

Deploying a bold cinematic language all her own, auteur Valeska Grisebach sculpts an engrossing, slow-burn epic. A daring, innovative narrative structure tracks Veska’s journey, unearthing a dense, complex portrait of immigrant life on the lawless border.
