A Day in the Life of Jo: Chapter Phaedra Mia mera sti zoi tis tzo: kefalaio Faidra
Jo, an angst-ridden, suburban 15-year-old, is going through it. She misses her bus, bickers with her mother, is bored by her boyfriend, and tries to avoid her divorced dad. Fed up with school, she’s awakened from her humdrum day when she encounters new student Phaedra singing in choir class. An instant attraction hits like a bolt from the blue, and they quickly form an intimate bond. Refreshed and energized by the encounter, the duo make plans to meet at the movies.
What begins as an expertly crafted slice-of-life character study quickly morphs into a surreal journey as Jo’s seemingly ordinary life takes on a cosmic proportion. Filmmaker Jacqueline Lentzou (winner of the Festival’s 2020 Live Action Short Film Competition for The End of Suffering: A Proposal) offers a vision of teenage life that imbues everyday details with astronomical dimensions. Inventive, unexpected, and narratively exhilarating, the film twists and turns toward an enigmatic and unforgettable finale.
