Iron Boy
(Le Corset)
Christophe is the son of a struggling farmer in rural France trying to live up to his father’s high expectations. When an untreated equilibrium issue causes a series of collapses culminating in catastrophic damage to the family’s tractor, Christophe is forced to wear a metal brace at all times to keep him upright. As the “iron boy” figures out how to navigate his newly restricted movements, music lessons with the local church organist provide a much-needed creative outlet, while his crush Clara encourages his penchant for mischief. Pulled between music, a budding romance, and family obligation, Christophe searches for balance both literal and metaphorical.
From former Pixar animator Louis Clichy, Iron Boy’s bold, inky line drawings and dreamy watercolors represent a turn toward a personal, poetic, and playful animation style that achieves the harmony that Christophe seeks. It both grounds the film’s fantastic elements and imbues its dramatic moments with lightness.
