Great Things in Smaller Packages

Before the imminent Oscar nominations arrive, let’s keep a spotlight trained on this year’s Independent Spirit Award nominees for achievement in independent cinema. Whether made by vibrant newcomers or veteran outsiders, these films achieve aesthetic nuances and fulfill grand thematic ambitions despite their meager budgets. This session will delve into key scenes from Todd Haynes’s controversial May December and Savanah Leaf’s very moving Earth Mama and furnish other viewing recommendations for last year’s most accomplished underdogs.

Recommended viewing: May December (dir. Todd Haynes), Earth Mama (Savanah Leaf)

Please note: The discussion ticket does not include a ticket to screen the films.
