Highlighting Filmmakers 22 Years Old and Younger, the 17th CineYouth Festival Presents 71 International Short Films

Cinema/Chicago today announced details surrounding the 17th CineYouth Festival, running April 22 – 24 in person at FACETS (1517 W. Fullerton Ave.) and available virtually worldwide April 25 – May 1, 2022. Featuring 71 international short films written and directed by filmmakers 22 years old and younger, this year’s CineYouth slate includes films from 17 countries, with more than half of the titles directed or co-directed by female-identifying filmmakers, and ten by directors identifying as nonbinary.[…]

57th Festival Award Winners Announced

The 57th Chicago International Film Festival, North America’s longest-running competitive film festival, today announced the winners of its 2021 competitions. In a virtual ceremony live-streamed via the Festival’s YouTube channel, the Festival awarded prizes in the following categories: International Feature Film Competition, New Directors Competition, International Documentary Competition, OutLook Competition, and Short Film Competitions, as well as the Chicago Award for an outstanding film in the City & State program.

The Gold Hugo in the International Competition went to MEMORIA, Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s beguiling, beautiful film following a Scotswoman (Tilda Swinton) living in Bogotá haunted by a noise that only she seems to hear.[…]

The 57th Chicago International Film Festival announced today the program for Industry Days, to be held October 14 – 17, 2021, with an impressive list of guest speakers to inspire and illuminate the film and entertainment community.

Highlights include this year’s Keynote talk with Brenda Gilbert, President and Co-Founder of BRON Studios, which has received six Academy Award wins for films such as Fences, Joker, Bombshell, Roman J.
