Shin Ultraman

Synopsis

After updating the origin story of Japan’s most famous monster with 2016’s Shin Godzilla, director Shinji Higuchi reboots classic 1960s sci-fi franchise Ultraman with a story that sees the gleaming silver superhero arriving almost out of nowhere to take on one of the monstrous otherworldly kaiju threats plaguing Japan. For the group of scientists and supernatural investigators known as the SSSP, the towering warrior becomes an ideal way to protect both their nation, and the Earth at large, from the extraterrestrial takeover—little do they realize that one of their own members has an important connection to the powerful figure. An enormous box-office hit in Japan, Shin Ultraman marries the beloved campiness of the original series with an exciting modern sensibility to create a thoroughly rousing, crowd-pleasing spectacle.

The screening will be preceded by two episodes of the original Ultraman series.
