Metronom

  Alexandru Belc

  Romania, France     102 minutes

Synopsis

Bucharest, 1972: On the eve of her final high school exams, Ana has just a few days to spend with her boyfriend before he leaves the country for good. Anxious about his departure, she hopes he’ll show up at a classmate’s party–a secret affair during which the friends listen to Metronom, a Radio Free Europe program broadcasting American rock music across communist Romania. The get-together is reaching a fever pitch when there is a knock on the door. The secret police have arrived. Evoking the time period with expert design and detail, this politically inflected coming-of-age drama casts a band of optimistic, freedom-minded teenagers against Romania’s totalitarian system.
