Call Jane

  Phyllis Nagy

  United States     121 minutes

Chicago, 1968. Suburban housewife Joy (Elizabeth Banks) leads an ordinary life with her husband and daughter. But when Joy’s pregnancy leads to a life-threatening heart condition, she finds the only way to save herself is by contacting The Janes, an all-women’s underground activist group led by Virginia (Sigourney Weaver) that arranges for safe, illegal abortions. Motivated by their work, Joy surreptitiously joins their cause, putting every aspect of her life on the line. With a winning performance by Banks and a witty and richly researched script by Haley Schore and Roshan Sethi, Call Jane is a riveting, empowering, and entertaining all-too-true story about women fighting back and taking control of their own lives and bodies.
