A Chiara
Synopsis
Carpignano (Mediterranea, A Ciambra) returns to Calabria to craft a unique take on the mafia film, told with urgency and clarity through the eyes of a 15-year-old girl. When her father goes missing after a joyful birthday celebration, Chiara (Swamy Rotolo) is desperate to find out what has happened to him. Neither her tight-lipped mother nor her older sister will explain the circumstances surrounding his disappearance—or even entertain Chiara’s probing questions. Once the resourceful teen begins to unearth secrets about her father’s ties to low-level organized crime, she faces a series of difficult choices, some of which might tear her away from her close-knit family (played by many of Rotolo’s own relatives).
