Best of 2022: Screen Performances

We all know when a film actor has moved, excited, intrigued, or surprised us, but what do fellow film actors or movie critics specifically admire in screen performance? How can we evaluate the unique demands that a given project places on its cast, or where an actor is making their own creative contribution to a movie’s style or meaning? We’ll confront these questions via clips from some of 2022’s most acclaimed turns and invite the audience to vote on their favorites. (Optional viewing in advance: TÁR and Everything Everywhere All at Once)

Join the Chicago International Film Festival and Nick Davis, Northwestern Professor and film critic, for a series of free interactive lectures exploring recent releases and festival films from around the world with a focus on the nuances of imagery, editing, and sound that complicate story and theme. This discussion is free and open to the public.

This event series is made possible with the support of the Robert & Penelope Steiner Family Foundation.
