“If you like to think about how we look, who we look at, and the power dynamics involved, do not miss this film.” –NZIFF
When Sari Braithwaite gained access to never-before-seen movie clips deemed immoral and censored by the Australian government from 1951 to 1978, she planned to liberate these long-suppressed images from the archives. But as she scrutinized over 200 snippets of sex, violence, and misogyny from Hollywood classics, European art-cinema and underground films, her project became a far more provocative and complex investigation of the sins of the cinema itself. A post-film discussion will follow the Saturday 10/13 screening with Karly-Lynne Scott (Northwestern University) and Chase Joynt (University of Chicago) discussing the film.
This film is a selection of the International Documentary Competition.
