Cinema/Chicago and the 47th Chicago International Film Festival, are pleased to present the 2011 Summer Gala, honoring Martin Sheen with special guest Emilio Estevez. This memorable cinematic event will be held on Friday, August 19th
at AMC River East (322 E. Illinois St.) with host Bill Kurtis with
reception immediately following at The Sheraton Chicago Hotel and
Towers. The evening will feature the Chicago Premiere of The Way,
starring Martin Sheen and directed by Emilio Estevez and will be
followed by an intimate discussion with the legendary father son duo.
Throughout
his career, Martin Sheen has been dazzling audiences with his
unforgettable screen presence. Fans will remember Sheen’s remarkable
breakthrough performances in Badlands and Apocalypse Now as well as his memorable roles in Wall Street, Catch Me If You Can and The Departed. And of course who can forget his award winning work as the leader of the free world on The West Wing.
Sheen has delighted audiences with his talent for over four decades. A
true master of his craft and a timeless talent, Martin Sheen is a true
American icon.
This exclusive fundraising event will also
include a special montage of Martin Sheen’s groundbreaking body of work
as well as the presentation of the Chicago International Film Festival’s
Career Achievement Award, the Silver Hugo.
Proceeds from this event benefit the year-round programs of Cinema/Chicago such as the Educational Outreach Program, the International Connections Program and Black Perspectives.
Past honorees include: Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Shirley MacLaine, Clint Eastwood, Jodi Foster, Robin Williams, Sigourney Weaver, Michael Douglas, Nicolas Cage among others.
