Synopsis:
Just before winning the Miss World beauty pageant in 1998, Linor Abargil was held captive, stabbed, and violently raped. Ten years later, Abargil resolves to confront her past and reach out to other survivors, encouraging women around the world to speak out. Director Cecilia Peck (Shut Up & Sing) follows Abargil as she speaks with teens in South Africa, visits campuses in the US, and returns to Italy for the first time since her attack in search of closure.

Biography

Cecilia Peck’s feature documentary, Brave Miss World, is currently premiering at film festivals. She directed and produced "Shut Up & Sing," about the backlash against the Dixie Chicks after their public comment opposing the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, won a Special Jury Prize at the Chicago Film Festival, Best Documentary at the Sydney, Aspen, and Woodstock Film Festivals, and was shortlisted for the 2007 Academy Awards. Cecilia’s documentary credits as producer include "A Conversation with Gregory Peck," Special Selection in the 2000 Cannes Film Festival, as well as a special presentation for TCM and PBS American Masters, and "Justice For All," an examination of capital punishment, which was awarded the Silver Gavel Award. She was Associate Producer on "Defending Our Daughters," a non-fiction film about women’s human rights for Lifetime Television, honored with the Voices of Courage Award by the Women’s Refugee Committee. Cecilia's Los Angeles based company, Rocket Girl Productions, produces independent feature films and documentaries.
